Live panoramic coverage of Photokina 2006

The IVRPA, or International VR Photography Association, is an international association of professionals who create and produce interactive, immersive images. During Photokina 2006, members of the IVRPA will be covering the major events and important booths in 360 degree, fullscreen immersive panoramic VR. These interactive VRs will be posted on this site during the event.

Around the World in 360 Degrees

On our booth in hall 05.1, we are showing an exhibition of printed panoramas by our members, as well as several showcases of interactive panoramic VR.
Listed below are the latest panoramas posted to the site. They may not be in chronological order. Alternatively, you can browse the panoramas by equipment used, by location on the fairground, by day, by photographer and by tag. Click the thumbnail to the view interactive VR, or click the title for more information about the VR.

Nokia had this huge crane like the ones used by TV Networks to broadcast large shows but on top of it only this small Nokia N series phone capturing live video to several TV screens at the Nokia booth. To see this phone just look strait up to the ceiling. Also fascinating was this Steady Cam Men, he was all over Nokia booth capturing live video and we did have a tête a tête here, look closely, he is not steading any regular cam, he is steading a Nokia N series phone!

Nokia had a great booth to show their gear. I am convinced now that in the near future people will be taking more pictures with cell phones than with cameras. It's so easy and everyone has one in their pocket. Nokia went a bit further to make it easy for everyone to shoot pictures or make videos and then upload it all to the Internet on the spot. Forget about newspapers, everyone will be making the news from now on, live from around the globe to the Internet.

On thursday Robin de Baere (standing in front) and I had a chance to have a closer look at the new Tokina fisheye zoom lens.
The first impression is ... impressive. When using this lens at 10mm on a Canon 20D (Nikon mount supported as well), you will get a panorama of 9916 x 4956 pixels in size. No sharpening at all done for this smaller (5000x2500) Quicktime VR, moderate sharpening (125-0,5-3) done within Photoshop CS for the alternative player image.

Nikon had a big booth with sample cameras mounted on poles. After I finished the shots this panorama, a visitor mistook my tripod and camera for one of that Nikon demo cameras. So I had to convince him that it's my gear...
